It was maybe two weeks ago, I went to Walmart with a couple of friends, to look for last minute Halloween gear for a party. We walked in and I went to get one of the electric chairs. As we were heading into the main part of the store, an store associate stopped us. He asked me, “Do you really have a disability?” I told him yes, so he went on to ask me, “Are you sure?”
A lady that was sitting on a bench saw me walk-in and she came to my defense. The man’s excuse for asking is that people who don’t have disabilities or who may not really need it, tries to use them. It’s Walmart so it’s known for groups of kids to go there and run around, to play in the toy section, and act a fool, etc. So his mentioning this was not a surprise.
I share this to say, be cautious on what you’re doing. Be mindful of your actions. If you know you don’t need the electric chair, then don’t get it. For one, you’re taking away the opportunity of someone who really does need it and it will save someone like me the embarrassment.
